It is designed to offer high throughput, low latency, and enhanced security for decentralized applications (dApps) and enterprise use cases. HBAR is the native cryptocurrency of the Hedera network. It serves two primary purposes: 1. **Fuel for transactions**: HBAR is used to pay for network services, such as executing smart contracts, storing files, and processing transactions. 2. **Network security**: HBAR is staked by nodes and users to participate in the network's consensus process, helping to secure the ledger and prevent malicious activity. The Hashgraph consensus algorithm uses a gossip protocol and virtual voting to achieve fast, fair, and secure agreement among network participants, enabling the network to process thousands of transactions per second with finality in seconds.
